Description

 

These APIs are used to create new cases. They require that a valid site and contact be specified. Everything else is optional. You may specify either a part/mod_level or a site part for a case (or neither), you may specify a contract, a title, a case type, priority, severity, and status (base Clarify does not allow you to specify a status). You may add a phone, log (or not), and you may have the case initially dispatched to a queue. You may specify the the case creation date, and the end of the phone log (for phone call length). You may specify the user who created the case, and you may specify additional fields. You may have a creation time bomb generated (for notifications). The objid of the case created is returned. The business rule version of this API does not return the objid of the new case object.

 

If you do not wish to associate a part/revision or site_part against the case, leave the part_num field empty. If you wish to have a case part (and revision), you must fill in the part_num, mod_level, and domain  fields. If you also specify a serial_no, the system will associate the site_part against the case. If you have site_parts that are not serialized, you can query for the site_part before calling this API, and pass in the objid of the site_part in the sp_objid field. If you do this, then the other fields (part_num, mod_level, domain, serial_no) are ignored.

 

If you want to have a phone log for the case, place the text in the phone_log field. Note that this is different than the ClearBasic version of this API, which required an external file. If you have a phone log the API will also generate a phone log activity log and a phone log time bomb (if time bombs are enabled).

 

You may also initially dispatch the case. If you specify a queue name, the case will be dispatched to that queue. In addition, an activity log entry will be added, and a time_bomb will be generated (if time bombs are enabled).

 

If successful, these APIs return both the objid and the id_number of the newly-created case. They are returned in the FCCS object variables ret_objid  and ret_id_num.

·         Create a case for Bill Clinton at the White House. The problem is for MS Word, Version 7.0 (serial number 1234). The case is on contract 'Hardware Support', and the case is given a title. It is entered by marty on November 23, 1997 at 10PM. The case_type is a Problem with High priority and Medium severity. The initial case status is Solving. Include some phone notes, the call lasted 15 minutes, and the case is dispatched to the Important queue. There are no time bombs generated, and some additional fields are also filled in.
